讲座内容介绍:One of the key procedures in elaborating and understanding new and existing electrocatalysts is the identification of so-called active centers at the electrode surface with optimal adsorption characteristics towards reaction intermediates. The concept of active sites was proposed as early as 1925. However, their identification, especially under reaction conditions, is often very complicated and, in most cases, indirect. Therefore, the nature of active sites is currently known for only a limited number of electrocatalytic reactions and catalyst surfaces. In the lecture, I will explain the principles of identification of active sites, especially using electrochemical scanning tunneling microscopy (EC-STM) under reaction conditions for several reactions essential for energy provision. Examples will include metal (e.g. Pt, Pd), metal oxide ( like MnOx and IrOx), and other non-metallic (MoS2, graphite etc.) electrocatalysts.
